She kept the article and, about two years ago, pulled it out and thought the cemetery would be a good project for the Carrollton DAR, one of two DAR chapters in Frederick. Her group has 67 members and is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
“We are a service organization with three main goals: patriotism, education and historic preservation,” she said. Doing something on the cemetery would involve the latter two. She also saw it as a way to build “esprit de corps” and teamwork with her local chapter and, and a way to get African-Americans more involved with the Carrollton chapter.
